Waste Incineration:

چکیده
This study examines the development of Energy from Waste incineration within the waste strategies of local authorities in England. With the development of Waste Strategy 2000 for England, produced by DEFRA, (then DETR) and the inclusion of statutory recovery targets for the recovery of energy from waste, along with the implementation of the Landfill Directive (99/31/EC), there created a need for introduction of EfW incineration as an alternative waste disposal option. The study looks at how local authorities are implementing EfW within their waste management plans, and to see whether it is being developed as part of an integrated waste management system. The study, based on quantitative and qualitative research methods of waste management plans, and of personal communication suggests that the development of EfW incineration is being hindered through the widespread public opposition that exists, as a result of the perception of health risks that the incineration process poses. Further more, the reluctance of local authorities to develop an integrated waste management system containing EfW incineration comprises the long-term feasibility, and sustainability of waste management within England.

On December 1, 2000, EPA adopted new source performance standards and emission guidelines for commercial and industrial solid waste incineration units established under Sections 111 and 129 of the Clean Air Act. In 2001, EPA granted a petition for reconsideration regarding the definitions of ‘‘commercial and industrial waste’’ and ‘‘commercial and industrial solid waste incineration unit.’’ In ...

متن کاملEnergy Recovery from Waste Incineration—The Importance of Technology Data and System Boundaries on CO2 Emissions
Previous studies on waste incineration as part of the energy system show that waste management and energy supply are highly dependent on each other, and that the preconditions for the energy system setup affects the avoided emissions and thereby even sometimes the total outcome of an environmental assessment. However, it has not been previously shown explicitly which key parameters are most cru...
متن کاملCurbing dioxin emissions from municipal solid waste incineration in China: re-thinking about management policies and practices.
As one of the countries with large amounts of dioxin releases, the control of dioxins is a major challenge for China. Municipal solid waste (MSW) incineration should be considered a high priority source of dioxin emissions because it is playing an increasingly more important role in waste management. MSW incineration in China has much higher emission rates of dioxins than in the developed count...
